From a young age, we have been handed a narrative that painted the world in a precise way and assured us of our guaranteed place at the top of it. Yet, as we stepped into manhood, reality contrasted drastically with the stories we were told.
This has caused us all to process our experiences in different ways. For some this may be through addiction, burying ourselves in work, succumbing to violent behavior, getting lost in unhealthy relationships, or other coping methods.
But, what is similar for almost all of us is that we have been doing this processing alone. In isolation, it can feel impossible to break out of the patterns and habits we were taught as children.
The purpose of this group is to find community and, together, build our way to a better future for ourselves and for the people around us. This group is a brave space built on understanding and love that will allow us to explore the impact of whiteness and masculinity on our lives, and the lives of others. It’s an unapologetic journey of healing, both individually and collectively, as we strive for true accountability.
This free six-week affinity circle will meet virtually on Wednesday evenings, March 27, April 10, April 24, May 8, May 22, and June 5 from 8-9:30 p.m. EST (5-6:30 p.m. PST).
The goals for the group will include:
- Reflecting on the ripple effects of our socialized behavior on others and ourselves.
- Unearthing and breaking apart the roots of oppression embedded in our minds.
- Understanding the legacy of privilege and power we have inherited and actively work to dismantle the harms that have stemmed from this legacy.
- Embracing accountability, acknowledging the harm we’ve caused, and healing from the harm we’ve endured.
- Forging a new path in a world craving authentic role models.
This affinity group offers a way for you to begin to transform your life and your impact on this world. The time for change is now. We hope to see you at our first gathering.
