Alan Gardner

As the retired Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon Communications, Alan led the HR Centers of Excellence that encompassed the overall employee experience for over 150,000 global employees at a DOW 30 company that generated nearly $132 billion in revenue in 2015.

He had leadership responsibility for setting the strategies and policies that fueled Verizon’s performance and values-based culture. His specific areas of responsibility included the Office of Ethics and Business Conduct, HR Information Technology, Employee Relations, EEO and AA, Workplace Solutions, Environmental Health & Safety, Employee Opinion Surveys, HR Communications, and Verizon’s Health and Wellness centers. Prior to that role, Alan was senior vice president of HR operations for Verizon Wireless, the largest wireless company in the United States. Previously, he served as Verizon’s corporate vice president of total rewards.

Over his 27-year career at Verizon, Alan has held leadership positions across a number of HR functions, including Compensation and Benefits, HR Systems, Safety and Environment, Workforce Performance, HR Strategy and Planning, and Staffing, and Leadership Development. In addition to roles in HR, he has also held positions in Information Technology and Sales Operations, Training and Support.

Alan applies his vast business experience and leadership skills to benefit the community, serving as a member of the Advisory Board of A Call to Men, a violence prevention organization, and Harvest of Hope, Family Services Network.  He also serves as a board member of World at Work, a nonprofit association for HR professionals and organizations that focuses on compensation, benefits, work-life effectiveness, and the future of work.
